world central kitchen
When the Pandemic first hit, Chef Marcus Samuelsson immediately partnered with Chef José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen (WCK) to convert Red Rooster Harlem in NYC into a community Kitchen to serve those in need impacted by the coronavirus. WCK uses the power of food to strengthen communities through times of crisis and has transformed the field of disaster response to help devastated communities recover and establish resilient food systems. Our initiative then expanded to Red Rooster Overtown in Miami in partnership with Food Rescue, and then Marcus B&P in Newark, NJ. Thanks to a generous $1 million donation from Audible in Newark, the WCK partnership was taken to the next level with the establishment of Newark Working Kitchens (NWK), a free, daily meal delivery service for needy Newark residents that activates local independent restaurants to cook delicious, healthy meals.
